Nick joined the lifeboat crew in 1974 in his home town of Weston-super-Mare, and transferred to Littlehampton when he moved to Sussex. Retiring from the crew in 1996, he returned as a deputy launching authority after a break of a few years, and is now the lifeboat operations manager. It’s a bit of a family thing, his father was the treasurer in Weston, and two of his brothers were on the crew as well. Now, his younger son Tom is on the crew at Littlehampton and his wife Emma is the press officer.
