On Sunday 19th July at 1:19pm Littlehampton RNLI were paged by the coastguard to assist a leisure craft with four crew onboard. The vessel had suffered engine failure and was drifting on rough seas in force 6 winds.

The station’s Atlantic 75 Blue Peter 1 lifeboat was already at sea on a training exercise with a volunteer crew onboard, and was tasked to attend. The lifeboat immediately changed course and headed to Bognor Regis to locate the stricken craft.

On arrival at the scene it soon became clear the vessel was unable to make it to it’s destination under it’s own steam. The lifeboat crew rigged a tow line and towed the boat and it’s crew back to safety at West Sands Boat Club, near Selsey.

The lifeboat returned to Littlehampton RNLI station at 3:24pm where it was refueled and made ready for service.
